Description
Fragility is the first of Ellie Vandoorne’s 3D collage works, combining a mixture of butterfly wings, watercolour, pastels and pencil. Like many of her artworks, this piece features a female figure in profile on a textured background with a headdress made up of collaged elements. Nature always plays in integral part in Vandoorne’s work, here however, the artist has chosen to highlight nature’s fragility as supposed to just her beauty. The butterfly wings in this piece were all ethically and sustainably sourced (from the Butterfly Gardener). It seems Vandoorne deliberately chose to use a number of butterfly wings that were damaged to accentuate the fragility of these wings and therefore that of nature.
