Description
After a winter walk in Hevingham woods in Norfolk on a foggy day Claire was inspired by the red and purple colours of the grasses, ferns and trees which appeared vivid against the blue grey fog. Claire embarked on several drawings to capture the scenes and has developed the drawings into oil paintings, of which The Poachers is one. The combination of a smooth soft application of oil paint set against strong directional brushwork and texture Claire defines the distant silhouettes and detailed foreground. Her current work is concerned with using two specific colours within her palette – phthalocyanine turquoise and cobalt violet light – and all her work of the last six months include these central colours. Two figures, the poachers, move into the distance their forms blurring into the fog and Claire has captured the colour perspective of the receding figures and woods perfectly. A soft pinkish sky and a circling Kite overhead adds the final touches to this atmospheric landscape painting. The Poachers is an oil painting on a standard canvas with dark grey painted edges.
