Lune 29 Days

Description

Lune 29 Days is a suite of 29 pencil drawings produced during an artist residency at The Art House, Wakefield UK, in July 2017. The figure of 29 correlates to each day of the lunar month. The work forms part of a greater body of drawings which began in 2009, also titled Lune, that grew out from diagrams found in a publication by NASA that details every solar eclipse over a 5000 year period of the Earth’s history. (refer to images). Titled Five Millennium Canon of Solar Eclipses -1999 to +3000, each Lune drawing uses the path of shadow of the solar eclipse as their first line and from which the form grows. There are 11898 diagrams in the NASA publication and so far just over 1200 drawings have been made. Lune grew out from themes of birth and fertility and I see this daily task of drawing as an act of reproduction, seeing Lune as a life’s work. Lune 29 Days was exhibited in my solo show at The Art House 29 July – 31 Aug 2017. Lune is sold in a specially produced buckram box.
